The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said in a Hadith: ‘Indeed some poetry is wisdom’

Abu Firas al-Hamdani famously said ‘Poetry is the register of the Arabs’

Poetry was their main form of historical record since the written form of the language did not develop completely until after the advent of Islam. It was their way of preserving language, lineage, historical events, and was their primary art form with which they competed against each other.

It therefore, is a treasure trove for students of multiple sciences, for none more so than the student of Arabic language. Poetry provides a key gateway of understanding the meaning, usage and application of words in the Arabic language as understood by those who were the most eloquent in it.

This webinar will provide a basic introduction to Arabic poetry, its importance to the language itself and the study of Islam, its basic features and guidance on the way a student should study poetry in an effective and enjoyable manner.
