Module from Advanced Qur'an Study and Tafsir Program

This module covers Tafsir-related topics from a contemporary perspective. The academic articles and books covered in this module provide in-depth studies of Western contributions to Quránic studies, as well as the Muslim responses to their critiques. The topics covered include:

Successful completion of this module requires students to produce proficiently written responses to a number of prompts on the topics studied throughout each semester.

Upon completion of this module, students will be competent in understanding the contemporary issues related to the Quran and tafsir from an objective and academic standpoint. The various topics covered will give them proficiency in dealing with tafsir-related queries and issues deemed problematic in the modern era.

Dr. Zeeshan Chaudri

Course Instructor

Dr Zeeshan Chaudri began his studies in the Institute of Islamic Education, Dewsbury where he enrolled into the Alimiyya program. He then transferred to Imam Zakariya Academy, London where he completed the program. Thereafter he completed an MA in Islamic studies at Markfield Institute of Higher Education. He then completed his PhD in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He is currently a teacher at Imam Zakariya Academy and Rawda in their Alimiyya program and Whitethread Institute. He also is a researcher for the National Waqf Fund (NWF).
