Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program

  • Taster Session: Al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab

    Course

    A study of a detailed fiqh manual such as Al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab (a commentary of Quduri rich in furu’), especially focussing on the chapters generally not covered in all ‘alimiyya programs.

  • Taster Session: Dala'il & Maqasid

    Course

    A study of the history of the Hanafi madhab, evidences of the madhab as well as contemporary and 'controversial' fiqhi issues.

  • Taster Session: Usul al-Fiqh

    Course

    Many of the classical books of Usul al-Fiqh can prove to be difficult to follow, so many students are left without a solid grounding in the field. Others may have studied the topic well, but require a refresher.

  • Taster Session: Tafsir Selections

    Course

    Cover carefully chosen selections of more than two dozen tafsirs from the earliest to the recent such as the tafsirs of Muqatil ibn Sulayman, Ibn ‘Atiyya, Abu Ja‘far al-Tabari, Abu Mansur al-Maturidi, Ibn Kathir, Qurtubi, and more.

  • Taster Session: ‘Ulum al-Qur'an (Sciences of the Qur’an)

    Course

    A study of the important sciences of the Qur’an through Imam Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti’s Al-Itqan fi ‘Ulum al-Qur’an, Shaykh ‘Abdullah al-Juday’s Al-Muqaddimat al-Asasiyyah fi ‘Ulum al-Qur’an, and others.

  • Taster Session: Modern Approaches to the Qur’an: A Critique

    Course

    Tafsir-related topics from a contemporary perspective. The academic articles and books covered in this module provide in-depth studies of Western contributions to Quránic studies, as well as the Muslim responses to their critiques.

  • Taster Session: Language, Style and Structure of the Qur’an

    Course

    Centres around the rhetorical aspect of Qur’anic verses. Students learn to recognise and highlight rhetorical aspects in verses particularly and in surahs holistically. The art of Qur’anic translation is also studied in this module.

    Take a closer look at the efforts of the Hadith scholars of old and how the science developed. It will equip the student with knowledge of the main figures and the books to refer to when attempting to find or analyse a Hadith.
