Book of Hayd from Imam Sarakhsi’s Mabsut
Are you ready to deepen your understanding of menstruation and purity rulings?
Interested in studying one of the most authoritative early Hanafi legal works with analytical depth?
After building a strong foundation with:
We now enter Level 3, an advanced exploration of hayd and tuhr through the lens of one of the Hanafi madhhab’s most authoritative early legal texts: The Mabsut by Shams al-A’immah Imam Sarakhsi (d. 483 AH).
This text is known not only for its legal weight but for its profound reasoning and critical engagement with legal theory. Imam Sarakhsi doesn’t just present rulings - he unpacks their logic, interrogates their foundations, and invites the reader into a deeper legal and intellectual world.
By joining this level, you will:
Shams al-A’immah Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ahmad Sarakhsi (d. 483/1090) was a towering Hanafi jurist, legal theorist, and scholar whose works remain foundational to the Hanafi madhhab.
Born in the city of Sarakhs, in present-day Turkmenistan, he studied under the esteemed Hanafi jurist Imam ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Halwani.
Due to Imam Sarakhsi’s exceptional mastery, he was honoured with the title Shams al-A’immah – The Sun of the Imams.
His most celebrated contribution is the Mabsut, a comprehensive encyclopaedic commentary on Hanafi jurisprudence. Remarkably, he authored this monumental work entirely from memory while imprisoned in a well in Uzgend (in present-day Uzbekistan). Despite the harsh conditions, he dictated the content to his students, preserving knowledge during a time of personal hardship. In the Mabsut, Imam Sarakhsi does not merely list rulings; rather, he offers detailed legal reasoning, critical analysis, and engagement with differing opinions - making the work an enduring guide for students, scholars, and jurists alike.
May Allah bless Imam Sarakhsi, elevate his rank, and allow us to benefit from his legacy.
The course will cover Kitab al-Hayd from Imam Sarakhsi’s Mabsut. Students are highly encouraged to read the text before attending each class.

Being it the first time joining an online class, I was very hesitant initially- however, I feel now I couldn't have made a better choice and would definitely recommend studying under respected Mufti Abdur Rahman sahib. We covered such things that I’ve never been taught in years of studying the topic.”
“This course proved to be an invaluable experience. In teaching such a complex and intricately detailed topic, respected Mufti Sahab is providing a great service to all who seek to further their knowledge. He was very patient in fielding all of our questions and explained everything very thoroughly. I truly learned a lot, and feel prepared to apply what I learned.
